After visiting Barcelona and the Catalan Museum, I became inspired by the frescoes in Romanesque churches and went on a search for more.
There are not many left in England due to the dampness so during our annual camping trip, I managed to visit as many as I could in France and Spain.
Natural pigments would have been used on wet plaster that drew the pigments in as it dried.
I came away with a new palette and started to experiment with watercolour on paper, layered to form a collage and then embellished with stitch.
Lots of concentration was needed to draw in the outlines.
